As a Sacramento family photographer for the past 8 years, my greatest hope is for you to leave your session feeling the love for one another and having enjoyed our time together. Photographing families year after year is an honor and one I don't take lightly. Over the years there are a few tips I have learned for a success family session:

1. Smile through it.

So you feel like the kids aren't looking at the camera, they aren't following directions, or they just ripped their adorable hat off that you spent many hours trying to find and hope it got here in time. Guess what, my favorite images are when kids and parents ARE NOT looking at the camera. My favorite images are when genuine connections are happening, when Mom is laughing at it all instead of being upset about it all. If you look happy in the images, it doesn't matter what the kids are doing because they will mirror that happiness! So buckle up, and just keep smiling and even it "feels" like everything isn't going "right", trust me, its going just as we hoped it would!

2 . Outfit Coordination

Coordinating outfits for a photoshoot is tough....I know... I have been there myself. For a family, start with what Mom is going to wear and work from there drawing inspiration from 2-3 colors and mixing in a pattern here and there. I find only 1 person in a pattern works best as to not clash with one another.

3. Relax & Have Fun

Breathe! Trust me, we are not saving lives here - we are just trying to get a few adorable images of your sweet family! If you are relaxed, your kids will met you there!
